What Is a Digital Signature? How It Differs From an Electronic Signature
Digital signatures and electronic signatures are not the same thing. Here is what a digital signature is, how PKI works, and when you need one vs the other.
Create, sign, and send documents in minutes.
Start your journey with 3 free documents — each with unlimited pages and unlimited signers

Three steps from a file on your desktop to a signed agreement in your inbox.
Drop in a PDF, DOC or DOCX — from your device or straight from Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or Box. Nothing to install.
Place signature, initial, date and text fields where they belong, and assign each one to the person who has to fill it.
Recipients sign in their browser with no account. You see who opened, who signed and who is holding things up, and everyone gets the completed copy.
Everything needed to send, sign and track an agreement — without leaving the browser.
Suited for mobile business needs. Extensive format support, cloud integration and advanced security.
Start with 3 documents at no cost. No credit card, no trial countdown, no feature traps. Every free document carries unlimited pages and unlimited signers, so you can put a real agreement through it rather than a sample one.
Paid plans carry no envelope caps. Send as many signature requests as your work actually requires, in whatever month the work lands — no per-send metering, and no quota to ration towards the end of a busy quarter.
Real people, quick answers. Reach the team directly when a document has to go out today, and get a human who can see what went wrong rather than a ticket number and a queue position.
Encrypted storage, signer authentication and a tamper-evident audit trail on every agreement. Each signature is sealed with a verifiable hash, so a completed document can be proven unaltered long after it was signed.
No credit card required

Short answers to what people ask before signing up.
Upload the PDF to SignPe, place your signature field, and draw, type or upload your signature. Download the signed file, or send it to others to sign. Your free plan covers 3 documents with unlimited pages and signers, and no credit card is needed.
See everything the free plan coversNo. An electronic signature is any electronic mark showing intent to sign, such as a typed, drawn or clicked signature. A digital signature is a specific type of electronic signature that uses a certificate-based cryptographic ID to verify the signer. Both are legally recognised; digital signatures add stronger identity proof.
Yes. SignPe works in any mobile browser and in the iOS, Android and Windows apps. Recipients do not need the app or an account; they sign from the link in their email.
The free plan covers 3 documents with unlimited pages and signers, and needs no card. Paid plans, Basic and Professional, remove the document limit; current prices are on the pricing page in the SignPe app.
See current pricesYes. Electronic signatures are legally recognised under the US ESIGN Act, the EU eIDAS regulation, India’s IT Act 2000 and equivalent laws in most major economies. Enforceability depends on the signer’s intent to sign, their consent to transact electronically, the ability to identify them, and the integrity of the signed document — all of which SignPe captures automatically.
Yes. The free plan includes 3 documents with unlimited pages and unlimited signers on each, and requires no credit card. Paid plans remove the document limit and add features such as in-person signing, signer authentication and cloud storage integrations.
No. Only the sender needs an account. Recipients receive a secure link by email and sign in their browser on any device, with nothing to install and no sign-up step.
SignPe accepts PDF files and Microsoft Word documents in DOC and DOCX format. PDF is the standard for document signing and the format most widely accepted for formal, legally executed agreements, so converting Word files to PDF before signing avoids formatting changes.
Yes. Add as many signers as the agreement requires and choose whether they sign in sequence or in parallel. Each signer gets their own fields, and the status view shows exactly who has signed and who is outstanding.
The audit trail is the forensic record of a signing event: who received the document, when they opened it, when they signed, from which IP address, and a cryptographic hash that seals the final file. If a signature is ever disputed, this record is what makes the agreement defensible — a wet signature on paper carries none of it.
You can void it. Voiding cancels the signing request immediately, deactivates every recipient’s signing link and notifies all parties automatically. The voided record stays in your dashboard for compliance purposes. A document that has already been fully signed cannot be voided.
