Every way to add a document
On the SignPe mobile app, adding a document opens the Add Document sheet. It gathers every source in one place, so wherever the file is, you are one tap from it.
| Option | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Scan | Opens your phone’s document scanner with automatic edge detection, up to 20 pages per scan | Paper forms, signed pages, printed contracts |
| Photos | Pick one or more images; several become one PDF | Pages you already photographed |
| Files | Opens the system file picker — on iPhone this includes iCloud Drive | PDFs and Word files saved on your phone |
| Drive, OneDrive, Box, Dropbox | Signs into your cloud account and shows a file browser | Documents your team keeps in the cloud |
Whichever you choose, the result opens in the editor ready for fields and signers. Supported formats are PDF, Word (DOC, DOCX) and images (JPG, JPEG, PNG), up to 20 MB per upload — see multiple file formats.
Scanning paper documents
A lot of signing still starts with paper: a form handed over at a site visit, a printed lease, a letter that arrived in the post. Scan turns your phone into a document scanner. Point the camera at the page and the scanner detects its edges automatically, straightening and cropping it so it looks like a flat scan rather than a photo of a desk.
You can scan up to 20 pages in one go, page after page, and they arrive in SignPe as a single document. No flatbed scanner, no emailing images to yourself, no separate scanning app.
- Use good, even light. Avoid a lamp casting your phone’s shadow across the page.
- Put the page on a contrasting surface. White paper on a dark table makes edge detection quick and accurate.
- Flatten folds. Creases and curled corners distort text; smooth the page first.
- Check each capture. Retake any page that is blurred before you move on to the next.
Importing from your photos
Already took pictures of the pages? Choose Photos and select them. When you pick several, SignPe combines them into one PDF automatically, in the order you selected them. A four-page form photographed earlier in the day becomes a single four-page document, ready to sign.
Select pages in order
Tap the photos in the order the pages should appear. It saves rearranging later and keeps the document readable for every signer.
Files, iCloud Drive and the cloud
Files opens your phone’s own file picker, so anything saved on the device is available — and on iPhone that includes iCloud Drive. If your documents live in a cloud account, choose Drive, OneDrive, Box or Dropbox: SignPe asks you to sign into that account, then shows a file browser so you can pick the file directly.
For the detail on connecting and browsing cloud accounts, see cloud storage integration.
After the import: from file to signed document
Getting the file in is the first step. Once it opens, you choose how it will be signed — Self-Signed Document, Request Signatures or In-Person Signing — and place fields where they are needed: Signature, Initials, Stamp, Full Name, Date, Text, Checkmark and more. Each field is assigned to a signer, so everyone knows exactly what is theirs.
- Sign it yourself when the form only needs your signature, and download the signed PDF straight away.
- Request signatures to email it to one or more signers, optionally in a set order.
- Sign in person by handing your phone or tablet to the person in front of you.
- Not ready? Save it as a draft and send it later; drafts never use a document.
Because your account is the same on every device, a document scanned on your phone is also in your list on the web app at app.signpe.com — handy if you prefer to place fields on a bigger screen.
Who this helps
- Field teams. A construction manager scans a signed change order on site and sends it to the client before leaving.
- Agents on the move. A real estate agent photographs a paper disclosure at a viewing and has the buyer sign it on the spot with In-Person Signing.
- Small offices. A receptionist scans intake forms instead of queuing at the office scanner.
- Anyone working from a phone. The contract is in Dropbox, you are on a train — open it, place the fields, send.
Compare that with the old routine: find a scanner, scan to email, download the attachment on a computer, upload it to a signing tool. Every step is a chance to grab the wrong file or lose an afternoon. On your phone it is one sheet and a few taps.
